If you are like us, we are enjoying the holiday season and packing in as much fun as we can before we have to return to the real world.  New Year’ Eve is the last big hurrah, so I want to make sure we have a lot of yummy snacks to celebrate with.  These New Year’ Eve Appetizers are always a big hit with my family and friends.  I am sure you will love them too! When planning my party appetizers, I always start with a good artichoke dip.  Instead of the traditional Spinach Artichoke Dip, try my recipe for broccoli artichoke dip.  It is sure to be a crowd favorite. I love the combination of brie with something sweet and this Baked Brie with Fruit is just the ticket.  It also has some chopped pecans for a little added texture.  I also have a great recipe for Brown Sugar Brie and Basil Peach and Bacon Baked Brie. I didn’t think I liked dates until I had these Bacon Wrapped Dates.  They are drizzled with Maple Syrup and taste just like candy. Every party needs a good cheeseball, so you might as well serve the best cheese ball ever.  I make this anytime I have an excuse to!  These barbecue  Jalapeño Poppers are always a big hit with the men.  And if you love anything wrapped in bacon and covered in BBQ sauce, you will love them too! My Bloomin’ Onion Bread is always one of the first appetizers to disappear from the table. I think I could eat this entire thing myself!  Bread covered in cheese, butter and green onions.  What’s not to love.  Cranberry Salsa is one of my favorite New Year’s Eve appetizers.  I make it over and over again.  The combination of cranberries and cilantro is unusual but oh so good! Serve it over cream cheese with crackers.  There can’t be a holiday party at my house without Potato Skins.  They are easy to make and a great addition to any New Year’s Eve celebration. Black Bean Salsa is an easy appetizer to throw together in a pinch.  And my recipe for Balsamic Black Bean Salsa is the perfect New Year’s Eve appetizer. And last but not least, I love to serve my Chicken Pot Stickers.  They are crispy and delicious and good filling appetizer to keep you satisfied until midnight. The Best Cheese Ball Recipe Ever! This is the only cheese ball recipe you will ever need.  The BEST Cheese ball recipe ever. I grew up in the era of cheese balls.  Every dinner party and holiday party had a cheese ball in the 60’s and 70’s.  Now the charcuterie board is the new cheese ball.  To be perfectly honest, I usually stir clear of a cheese ball if I see one at a party.  Well, that was until now!   This summer I attended a party where several people were gathered around the cheese ball.  So I decided I’d give it a try. Well, I pretty much didn’t leave that table for the rest of the party!!  The flavor and the texture were perfect. After not being able to forget about the cheese ball after a few months, I decided I needed the recipe.  But I couldn’t remember where I had eaten it. We attended a lot of parties during the summer for graduations and weddings and I couldn’t remember whose party had this unforgettable appetizer.  So I started emailing and texting the hosts of every party I had attended asking if they had served a cheese ball at their party.  They probably thought I was crazy! After about a month of texting, the mystery was solved and I got the recipe.  And you are going to be so glad that I did!  This cheese ball recipe is perfect for all your holiday parties.  This recipe makes two balls, so you can serve one and wrap one up to share with a neighbor. Tips for making a cheese ball The right combination of cheeses is what makes a cheese ball great.  This recipe has a unique and magical combination of flavors and cheeses. A cheese ball should be made a head of time.  It needs  time to set up and chill and the flavors will improve as it sits in the fridge. Be sure to wrap the cheese ball up tightly in plastic wrap while storing in the fridge.  I often wrap it in aluminum foil too to make sure it is air tight.  Air will dry out the cheese ball. Add your outer coating right before serving.  I like to use crushed almonds. Allow the cheese ball to sit at room temperature for a bit before serving.  It will make it easier to spread on your crackers. What cheese do I use for a cheese ball? Cream Cheese is the base for most cheese balls.  This recipe calls for regular cream cheese as well as a flavored cream cheese, onion and chive. Cheddar cheese is commonly used in most cheese balls.  This is the cheese that gives the cheese ball flavor so I have found that sharp works best. How long does a cheese ball last? Because it uses cream cheese, it needs to be stored in the refrigerator.  If wrapped air tight, it will last up to two weeks, especially if you haven’t added the outside nut topping until before serving. This particular cheese ball has a lot of flavor going on.  I highly recommend using all the flavors, even if you think you don’t like one of them. This recipe uses a blue cheese dressing, I don’t like blue cheese at all but the combination of it with all the other flavors makes this cheese ball the BEST so I didn’t skip it.  You might not like pimento or black olive but they help make this cheese ball work. This recipe makes two large cheese balls.  If you want to make more the recipe can easily be doubled. Lighthouse Chunky Blue Cheese dressing 2.1 oz. black olives (chopped) 4 oz. pimento (diced) 1/2 Tbsp granulated garlic 1/2 tsp Accent seasoning 1 cup almonds (finely chopped) Combine all ingredients except for almonds and mix well.  You may need to use your hands to do this!  You want to make sure all the flavors are well mixed. Cover with plastic wrap and store in refrigerator over night. After chilling, divide mixture into two cheese balls.  At this point you can roll in chopped almonds and serve or wrap up again and keep in the refrigerator until ready to serve.  Be sure it is airtight.  Cover with almonds right before serving. Bananas Foster Trifle Bananas Foster Trifle is a delicious dessert that has layers of goodness.- a shortbread cookie layer, custard and delicious Bananas Foster sauce! This post is sponsored by Walkers Shortbread but all opinions are my own. This recipe for Bananas Foster Trifle is a fun and delicious twist on a traditional trifle. I remember my mother making an English trifle when I was a child.  A pretty layered dessert in a bowl specifically made for trifle, usually a large, deep, round, clear glass bowl that the pretty layers of the trifle showed through.  I don’t own a trifle bowl and my guess is most people don’t. English Trifle is traditionally made with fruit, a thin layer of sponge fingers or pound cake soaked in sherry or rum and custard. Today I am sharing a Bananas Foster Trifle which is a combination of English trifle and Bananas Foster, a fun twist on two classic desserts. What is Bananas Foster? Bananas Foster is an American dessert that originated in New Orleans and is often made table side and flambeed.  We’re not going to be setting anything on fire here though!  Bananas Foster is a combination of bananas covered in cooked butter and brown sugar.  Pretty much heaven!  Alcohol is often added and then it is set on fire – thus the flambe!  It is most often served over ice cream or as a crepe filling. Today though, we are going to use the delicious Bananas Foster sauce to make Bananas Foster Trifle!  Instead of the traditional sherry and berries we are going to layer our trifle with the Bananas Foster sauce.  Instead of pound cake we are going to use delicious, buttery Walkers Shortbread cookies. I used their Assorted Shortbread pack so I had a variety of shapes and sizes. Walkers is my favorite brand of shortbread.  Made in Scotland, Walker’s Shortbread maintains its traditional shortbread recipe made with four simple and natural ingredients, including, flour, sugar, salt and 100% pure butter! How to Make Bananas Foster Trifle First, you need to pick your container.  I decided to go with individual servings of Bananas Foster Trifle and the round shortbread cookies were the perfect fit for my dessert dishes. The next essential ingredient of trifle is custard.  I made my custard from scratch with the recipe below, a traditional English custard.  You can also use vanilla pudding but pudding is much sweeter than custard. Place a layer, about 2 Tbsp of custard over the shortbread cookie. The next layer is the delicious Bananas Foster sauce.  Then just repeat with another layer of shortbread, custard and Bananas Foster sauce. The final layer is a topping of freshly whipped cream, a spring of peppermint and another Walkers Shortbread cookie for garnish! The custard and Bananas Foster helps to soften up the shortbread.  There is so much good flavor and texture happening in one place!!
