Healthy Snack Ideas with Hummus is the perfect way to kick off the new year. It’s an easy way to reach that goal of healthier snacking!
Like many of you, I have set a goal to eat better this year. Preparing healthy meals isn’t that difficult but healthy snack ideas are another matter. I have found that with a little bit preparation and planning, snack time can be healthy too. It’s when I don’t plan and I just open the cupboard or refrigerator to see what I can find that I run into trouble.
So for me, the new year starts with a trip to my local Albertsons/Safeway store where I stock up on some healthy snack foods. One of my favorite healthy snack ideas is hummus. I love hummus all by itself but I also like to dress it up a bit. Adding a few delicious and colorful toppings to the hummus not only makes it look prettier but it tastes even better! I love the traditional hummus as well as the red pepperof O Organics® hummus. I like to pick up some of the of O Organics® guacamole too and dress it up a bit. Of course you will need something to dip into the hummus so grab some fresh veggies like O Organics®baby carrots or their Caramelized Onion Pita Crackers which I love!
The possibilities are only as limited as your imagination! I’ve come up with some fun combinations that I really love and everything I used came from my local Albertson/Safeway. My favorite, and the easiest, is to top the hummus with some sliced almonds and drizzle honey over the top. Yum!! I love the sweet and savory combo.
Sometimes I just look and see what I have in my refrigerator that would make a great hummus topper. Another favorite is to chop up a tomato, some fresh basil, pine nuts and a drizzle of balsamic glaze.
Another fun combination is pomegranate seeds, Feta or Gorgonzola and a sprinkle of parsley.
Another simple one is to add some chopped fresh peppers to the top of the Roasted Red Pepper Hummus. A little extra color and crunch!
For the guacamole I just add some black beans, salsa and chips!
For dipping, I use a combination of fresh veggies including baby carrots, cucumbers and an assortment of sliced peppers. Tortilla chips and bagel chips are favorites too. Just grab a chip and dip in! For even more healthy snack ideas you might want to try Peanut Butter and Oatmeal Bars for a protein packed snack. Garlic Parmesan Roasted Chickpeas look amazing too and Baked Crispy Zucchini Chips are a great way to eat your veggies.
