Having a list of go to, easy appetizers like brie crostini makes entertaining so much easier. Today’s recipe is one of those as well as some of my other favorites including Balsamic Black Bean Salsa, Roasted Garlic Artichoke Dip and Guacamole. You can find all my appetizer recipes here.
Brie Crostini – Simple Appetizer
Appetizers are my favorite part of a meal and I have been known to make a complete meal just out of appetizers. I love how appetizers set the tone for the meal. It gives your guests time to visit while you finish up any last minute touches on the meal! Keeping the appetizers simple is important when you are also fixing a complete meal and brie crostini is the perfect choice.
If I am attending a potluck and given a choice, I will always choose to bring an appetizer or two. Because this brie crostini is best served fresh out of the oven, if I am taking it to a party, I will always bake it at the host’s home. Always call ahead to make sure the oven will be available for 5 minutes.
What is crostini?
Crostini means “little crusts” in Italian and is a little slice of bread that is toasted or grilled. A crostini is the perfect vehicle for all kinds of delicious toppings. I love to use them for bruschetta. I also love to top crostini them with a slice of brie cheese, a sprinkle of fresh herbs and a drizzle of honey. It is the simplest appetizer and so delicious! Brie Crostini is one of my favorite ways to use crostini.
What is Brie?
Brie is a nice soft, creamy, buttery, mild French cheese and is always the first one to disappear when I put it on a cheese board. Brie is made from cow’s milk and the cheese has a rind on it which is actually edible mold. It really doesn’t have any taste and is totally edible.
Brie and Honey
I think that brie and honey are perfect combination and pair beautifully together on this brie crostini. The addition of some fresh herbs gives it even more amazing flavor. Because Brie is such a mild cheese it doesn’t compete with the honey and herbs, they just compliment one another.
How to Make Brie Crostini
- Slice your baguette into about 1/2 inch thick slices.
- Place the sliced baguette on a parchment lined baking sheet.
- Add a slice of Brie cheese, with or without the rind, you choose.
- Sprinkle with your favorite fresh herbs. I used thyme but oregano, rosemary and basil would also work. If you don’t have fresh herbs, use dried.
- Place into a 450 degrees F oven and bake for about 5 minutes or until the bread begins to brown around the edges and the cheese melts. Watch it closely.
- Remove from oven and drizzle with honey. Serve warm.
